About Mai BAG!
Mai Bag is made by the artist Mai Ueda
In the beginning of 2004, Mai noticed how the very useful plastic shopping bag was also incredibly fashionable. The shape and
size was ideal for a daily tote and Mai saw that it was the perfect handbag for men and women.
So Mai decided to reinterpret the common plastic shopping bag in leather.
Mai made and tested multiple samples of her bag until she discovered the amazing kangaroo skin with metallic foil finish. Thin yet
incredibly strong, Mai loved most that kangaroo skin was luxuriously elegant.
MAI BAG was made.
Soon after, Mai met with Jean Marc Loubier, who was president of CELINE and they decided to collaborate.
In 2006 CELINE introduced MAI BAG for CELINE, a limited edition handbag in gold, silver and bronze.
Mai’s bags were a hit and sold in CELINE shops around the world.
Today, even though the CELINE edition is sold out, demand and interest remains very high for MAI BAG.
So MAI BAG proudly introduces the new versions of this timeless design.
The handle has been lengthened slightly – for use as a shoulder bag and it has a hidden side pocket perfect for easy access for
mobile phone and keys.
